Natural History Illustration
Natural history has always been a great source of fascination to me, and inspiration for my practice. I strongly believe that 'a pencil is one of the best of eyes' (Scudder, 1874), and accordingly can more often than not be found haunting the halls of a natural history museum, mechanical pencil and sketchbook in hand, discovering more about the specimens than simply looking allows for.
Below is a selection of my museum studies, drawn from London NHM, Dublin Dead Zoo, Oxford NHM, Grant Museum of Zoology, Horniman Museum, Bristol Museum, and many others. Amongst these are examples of my professional illustration work in this field, including select illustrations from Birdsong in a Time of Silence (Penguin Random House, 2021) and The Wren: A Biography (Penguin Square Peg, 2018).
